Why am I told IE 8 is not optimized for my system? My system is Vista 64 bit which is on the list of systems?

this system is on the list put out by yahoo that should be able to have IE 8, furthermore when i check with Gateway or try to download IE 8 I am told I already have IE 8. I find this to be a bit confusing to say the least help!
